Why your list is shrinking (even though you're working harder)

Here's something I wish someone had told me three years ago.

You don't have an email list problem. You have an attention problem.

Every week, some percentage of your subscribers silently drift. They stop opening. They mark you as "read later" and never come back. That's not your fault — it's the natural half-life of any list. The average engaged window on a cold opt-in is 30–60 days. After that, you're emailing ghosts.

Most marketers respond to this by writing better emails. More subject-line tricks. More subject-line AI. More "personalised" copy.

That's the wrong lever.

The only way to grow faster than your list decays is to keep adding fresh, warm opt-ins every single week — not in bursts when you happen to run an ad, but as a weekly habit.

Tomorrow I'll tell you why organic traffic is mathematically the most expensive way to do that (even though it feels free).
